Supporting Policy for Mobilizing Climate Action in Indonesia

Government of Indonesia (GOI) has issued Presidential Regulation No. 61/2011 stipulating the National Action Plan on Greenhouse Gases Emissions Reduction (RAN-GRK) in 2011. This Regulation elaborates on Indonesia's commitment to make voluntary reduction to its Greenhouse Gases Emissions by 26% against a business-as-usual (BAU) scenario using domestic resources, and adding up to 41% with extra 15 % supported by international funding by 2020. The RAN-GRK specifies Indonesia's action to mitigate climate change in 5 priority sectors. As derivative to RAN-GRK, Regional Action Plan on Greenhouse Gases Emission Reduction (RAD-GRK) has also been launched nationally in the end of 2012.

The 26 – 41% emission reduction commitment has been stated, however there is no clear global sanction to any breach of commitment for this matter. In Climigato, we simply believe that ‘the price of national commitment is the nation’s pride’. Mobilizing climate action in rural or urban level is a small step that climigato can assist in the context of 26 – 41%.
